Simmons in 12th Place After First Day at New England Championships

Simmons Swimming & Diving narrowly lost to UMass Dartmouth on the road Tuesday night. The Sharks were edged out by just five points in their first return to competition following their annual January training trip.

After finishing eighth in the prelims, the 200-yard Free Relay, the Sharks team of sophomore Chennelle Jackson, senior Julia Herman, Boswell and junior Brittany Torelli finished in 12th place (1:48.44) in the B finals.

In the 500-yard Freestyle, Arsenault took first place in the B finals with a time of 5:29.22, three seconds faster than her morning qualifying swim.

In the 100-yard Butterfly, Chennelle Jackson and Julia Morrison placed third and fourth in the C final, with Morrison besting her morning prelim time with a 1:06.38 in the evening.

In the 200-yard Backstroke, Stephanie Bitzas placed sixth in the C final, swimming 2:26.49 in her first appearance at New Englands.

In the 200-yard Individual Medley, Erica Boswell powered her way to a sixth place swim in the B final, scooping up 9 points and posting a time of 2:29.61.

The Sharks divers, making their first appearance of the meet, spun and flipped their way to take nine points for Simmons, with Amanda Dirksmeier (252.95), Heather O'Connell (247.25) and Alyssa Rizzo (208.70) placing 15th, 16th and 17th, respectively.

And, in the last final of the evening, the 400-yard Medley Relay team of Julia Herman, Torelli, Arsenault and Boswell swam to a sixth place finish in the B final with a time of 4:27.65.

The competition resumes with Saturday morning preliminaries at 10:00am on February 21.
