Simmons Swimming & Diving hosted their first home meet of the season against Babson College on Tuesday night. The Sharks fell to the Beavers, 156-130, and now carry an overall record of 2-3.

The Simmons divers swept both the 1- and 3-meter events. Alyssa Rizzo (Attleboro, Mass.), Amanda Dirksmeier (Marshfield, Mass.) and Meredith Wish (Brockton, Mass.) took the top three spots, scoring 162.85, 158.40 and 156.16, respectively. Jeanie Kim of Babson finished fourth with 138.30 points.

Babson did not send a diver to the 3-meter springboard rotation. Wish and Dirksmeier finished 1-2 in the event to tally 13 points for the Sharks, a "huge boost for the overall score," said Head Coach Mindy Williams.

Senior Keri-Ann Arsenault (Chester, N.H.) and Wish tied for points scored for Simmons, finishing the meet with 12 points each. Arsenault, a distance freestyle specialist, placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, just 8 seconds behind first place finisher Meaghan Rohde from Babson. Later in the meet, Rohde and Arsenault went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle with a smaller margin of 4 seconds.

"We knew that Babson had some fast swimmers and that we would have to fight for points," said Williams. "There were some really close races and I was pleased with how the Sharks swam, particularly so soon after Thanksgiving break."

The Sharks will face their next competition on Saturday and Sunday, December 6-7, as they host the 2008 GNAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Simmons College Holmes Sports and Fitness Center Pool.
