Simmons Student-Athletes Earn All-Academic Conference Honors

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team.

The Simmons College swimming and diving team proved to be the best in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference back at the conference championships in December. This week the accolades continued to pour in as junior Keri Ann Arsenault (Chester, N.H.,) was named the GNAC Swimmer of the year, and head coach Doug Backlund was honored as the conference coach of the year.

48 Simmons College student-athletes were recognized as Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Academic All-Conference selections for the 2007-08 season.

"I am thrilled to learn of the 48 Simmons student-athletes receiving the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All Conference Honors. And I am not surprised." said Simmons College Director of Athletics Ali Kantor.  "Our athletes are leaders both in the classroom and on the fields. They are hard workers, disciplined, committed to achieve and set their sights high. We are very proud of these 48 student-athletes."

To be eligible as an Academic All-GNAC selection, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher.  Athletes must have also participated in a sport in which the GNAC sponsors a championship event.

The Sharks soccer and swimming programs each had 14 student-athletes selected.
