Celebrating Women's History Month with Soccer Sophomore Elsy Romero

Throughout Women's History Month, the Simmons Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will reflect on the importance of celebrating Women's History Month and the inspirations in their life. Today we open up with a question and answer segment from Simmons soccer sophomore Elsy Romero.

1. Who throughout women's history has been inspirational to you and your life?
United States national soccer team player Christen Press has been of great inspiration to me through my transition from high school to college. I applaud Press' openness with mental health and her decision to take time off from the sport. Her actions demonstrate great bravery for prioritizing personal health and happiness over everything else, which is often ignored among our generation.

2. What does women's history month mean to you?
Women's history month represents all the actions taken by women, through great rigor and determination, to change societal standards. Opportunities to which I am presented with today were made possible by so many before me, so within this month we focus on them to remind ourselves of the great achievements completed.

3. How do you celebrate and show the importance of women's history within your team?
As a team we often discuss women soccer players from around the world and take great inspiration from their skills and work ethic.

4. How will you transition from learning from the inspirational women you mention in the first question being that inspirational woman/leader in your future?
While I do not plan on continuing with the sport of soccer after graduation, I hope to take away all other collaborative and leadership skills learned for my next step in the journey.Spreading kindness to all and remembering to practice self-love when needed.
