BRIGHTON, Mass. – Graduate senior Nell Spencer scored a single-game best two goals to propel Simmons soccer (2-6, 2-4 GNAC) to the 4-2 victory over Rivier University (2-9-1, 0-7-1 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Wednesday evening.

Simmons set the tone of the contest early. Two and half minutes into the match, Spencer buried a pass from sophomore Sydney Neumuth into the upper right corner of the net to give the Sharks 1-0 advantage. Midway through the half, junior captain Izabella Warren added to the lead firing a shot outside the 18-yard box into the bottom right.

However, with less than two minutes remaining the half, Rivier avoided the shutout. Sami Blais cut the deficit in half with a shot into the lower left corner.

The Sharks returned to the pitch after the 15-minute break with renewed energy. Junior defender Riley Wasiuk connected with Neumuth to give Simmons its two-goal lead back three minutes into the second half. Rivier brought the match to within a score in the 59th minute, but Simmons was able to hang on.
