Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Dean, 1-0

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons soccer dropped a heartbreaker to Dean College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, falling to the Bulldogs, 1-0, Wednesday evening.

Maintaining possession 66% of the first half, the Sharks offense was strong in the early part of the contest. The Sharks offense peppered Bulldog goalkeeper, Haley Gaunt. Sophomore Sydney Neumuth and senior captain Sierra Duggan registered back-to-back shots on net in the 14th and 15th minutes, but Gaunt was able to come up with the saves.

Coming out at the start of the second half, momentum began to shift over towards the direction of the Bulldogs, but the Sharks still maintained an advantage in the possession. It wasn't until the 79th minute before Bulldogs took advantage of a Simmons mistake. Dean junior forward Jazzy Sztyler-Magee scored on a breakaway goal from the far side of the field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Marita Nothacker played sold in net rejecting four shot-on-goal attempts.

  • Sophomore Sydney Neumuth led the Sharks with four shots, including three on net.
  • Senior Nell Spencer and junior Riley Wasiuk also recorded four shots in the contest
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Maritak Nothacker registered four saves in outstanding defense in net

Simmons returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 2 when they travel to Hartford, Conn. to face the University of St. Joseph (Conn.). Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
