BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Cierra Martin (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Simmons University women's soccer team over Newbury College, 5-0, this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. Although, the match was played at Simmons' home pitch, Newbury served as the home team. The Sharks win their fifth straight game to improve to 5-3-0, while the Nighthawks fall to 1-8-0.

Simmons dominated match play, outshooting Newbury, 30-1, including 13-0 in the second half, while owning an 11-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Martin's five goals established a career high for the second-year player for the Sharks. Senior Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) also notched a pair of goals to give her five in her last three outings and seven for the season.

Martin put Simmons on the board in the first half when senior forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) found her in the 25th minute for a 1-0 lead. Forde followed less than 10 minutes later with her first marker of the night on a helper from senior back Erin Fleming (West Boylston, Mass.) to give the Sharks a 2-0 margin. Elliott set up her second goal of the evening when she found Martin for her second tally and third goal of the year with just 1:41 remaining in the opening half.

The Nighthawks defense kept Simmons off the board for most of the second half, before Martin fed first year midfielder Gabriella Cacia (Watertown, Mass.) for her first collegiate goal with 5:48 left in the match to increase the Sharks lead to 4-0. Forde capped the scoring for Simmons when she ripped a shot from 10 yards out that found its way just inside the right post for a 5-0 lead with 34 ticks showing on the second half scoreboard.

First year midfielder Twalesha Montague (Hartford, Conn.) paced the offense with Newbury's lone shot.

Senior keeper Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) earned the victory with her second shutout of the season and the third of her career for Simmons, while senior goalie Noelle Sass (Randolph, Mass.) stopped 14 shots for the Nighthawks.

The Sharks return to action tomorrow night when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Anna Maria College at Daly Field for a 7:00 p.m. start, while Newbury heads to Bennington, Vt. on September 29 for a New England Collegiate Conference tilt with Southern Vermont College at 1:00 p.m.
