Klane Lifts Soccer over Mount Ida, 1-0; Schuling Earns 100th Career Coaching Victory

NEWTON, Mass. ? Senior forward Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) scored with less than six minutes to play to give the Simmons women?s soccer team a 1-0 victory over host Mount Ida College this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Alumni Field in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 9-5-2 overall and 6-4-1 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 7-9-0 and 3-8-0. 

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior forward Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) scored with less than six minutes to play to give the Simmons women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over host Mount Ida College this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Alumni Field in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 9-5-2 overall and 6-4-1 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 7-9-0 and 3-8-0. 

The victory marks the 100th career coach win for Head Coach Erica Schuling, who is the all-time victory leader in Simmons soccer history. 

The Sharks threatened to score for the entire match, outshooting Mount Ida, 25-1, including 15-1 in the second half, while owning a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks. 

Klane netted the game-winner with 5:51 to play in the contest for Simmons. The forward lifted a shot from just outside the box and out of the reach of the Mustangs' keeper for her third marker of the season. 

Senior goalie Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) was untested in the match to earn her ninth career shutout and second in as many matches for the Sharks. Sophomore keeper AnneMarie Seiler (Biddeford, Maine) was outstanding in net for Mount Ida, stopping 10 shots on the night. 

Junior midfielder Ciara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) looked to put Simmons on the board early in the first half with a shot and a rebound, but Seiler turned her away. Junior midfielder Lauren Brandau (Madison, Conn.) also made a push to crack the scoring column, but her shot went off the cross bar and the rebound was punched away by Seiler in the 83rd minute of play. 

The Sharks conclude the regular season on Wednesday, October 25 when they host Westfield State University at 7:00 p.m. on Daly Field, while the Mustangs host Pine Manor College on October 26 at 7:00 p.m.
