Gammon, Elliott Lead Soccer in 10-0 Rout at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. - Senior midfielder Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) registered the second career hat trick and junior forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) tallied a career-high six points to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team to a 10-0 rout over host Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this evening at AMCAT Field in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks run their unbeaten streak to four straight and improve to 4-3-2 and 3-2-1 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-7-0 and 0-4-0.

PAXTON, Mass. - Senior midfielder Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) registered her second career hat trick and junior forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) tallied a career-high six points to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team to a 10-0 rout over host Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match this evening at AMCAT Field in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks run their unbeaten streak to four straight and improve to 4-3-2 and 3-2-1 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-7-0 and 0-4-0.

Simmons dominated possession with a 32-2 shot advantage and owned a 8-0 margin on corner kicks. The Sharks had two players with six points and three with five or more points for the first time since a 16-0 win over Anna Maria on October 6, 2012, when they also had a pair of players tally six points and three total five in the same match.

Gammon needed just three shots to net her trio of goals, while Elliott scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others. Junior midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) enjoyed a five-point outing with two goals and an assist for her second multi-goal effort in as many matches and the fifth of her career. Junior back Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) also factored in multiple scores with a personal-high two assists.

Sophomore midfielder Shannon LeBlanc (Lancaster, Mass.) and first year midfielder Madelyn Hill (Douglas, Mass.) each attempted a shot to lead the offense for the home team.

The Sharks scored four times in the first 6:13 of play, including a pair of goals from Gammon and a goal and two assists from Elliott. Forde scored the other goal for the visitors. Gammon's third goal of the night came just 26 seconds into the second stanza and gave Simmons a 7-0 lead on an assist from first year forward Darschelle Desronvil (Brockton, Mass.).

First year midfielder Cierra Martin (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) recorded her first career marker on a cross from Cottam at 26:56 to increase the Sharks' lead to 5-0, before junior back Zoë Weik Litchfield, Conn.) netted the first collegiate goal of her career as well with the final goal of the opening half coming at 29:59 on a feed from senior forward Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) for the Sharks' sixth goal of the period before the intermission. Senior back Alyssa Marceau (North Adams, Mass.) joined Weik and Martin with her first college score as well, coming at 64:15 for a 9-0 gap for Simmons.

Senior keeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) went untested in the first half of play for the Sharks, before yielding to junior goalie Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine), who stopped the only shot she faced in the second half to preserve the combined shutout. First year goalie Arielle McCabe (Medford, Mass.) turned away two of six shots in the first 29:20 of play and sophomore keeper Gabriella Eldredge (West Boylston, Mass.) stopped seven of 13 shots she faced in the final 60:40 of play for Anna Maria.

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, September 30 when it travels to Nashua, N.H. to take on GNAC foe Rivier University at 1:00 p.m., while the AMCATS head to New Haven, Conn. to play Albertus Magnus College at 1:00 p.m. on the same day.
