Gilbert Named GNAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week Again

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of October 10-16, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second time this season that Gilbert has earned the award. She was also named the top rookie for the week of September 19-25.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of October 10-16, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second time this season that Gilbert has earned the award. She was also named the top rookie for the week of September 19-25.

The first year tallied six points on three goals in three matches for the Sharks. The forward netted a pair of goals in a 5-0 victory over host Mount Ida College on October 10 and capped the week with a marker in a 3-0 win over Anna Maria College on October 15.

For the season, the Falmouth High School product ranks second on the squad and 12th among conference leaders with six goals and her 14 points is tied for second on the team and 12th in the league. A Nursing major, Gilbert has started two of 13 matches she's appeared in and has netted at least one goal in four different matches. She is the first rookie since at least 2007 to score multiple markers on more than one occasion during her debut campaign for Simmons. The first year player has been an efficient scorer for the Sharks, connecting on 28.6% of her shots to lead the team.

Simmons is unbeaten in six of its last seven matches and owns a 7-6-2 overall record, including 6-3-0 in GNAC play and currently stands fourth in the conference standings. The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, October 19 when they host conference rival Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 p.m. at Daly Field.
