BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's soccer team displayed a balanced attack, led by junior forward Gabrielle Klane's (Franklin, Mass.) two goals, as it overpowered visiting Norwich University, 6-1, this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Daly Field in Brighton Mass. The Sharks improve to 5-5-1 and 4-2-0 in conference play, while the Cadets fall to 2-7-1 and 1-5-0.

Five different players scored for Simmons. Klane added an assist for a five-point night and sophomore forward Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) joined teammate Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) with three (1-1-3) points for the contest, including Cottam's first collegiate marker. The Sharks dominated play, outshooting their opponents by a count of 30-4, including a margin of 23-2 in the first half.

Sophomore striker Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) opened the scoring for Simmons at the 5:30 mark, when Cottam played a through ball to her for a ground shot that snuck past the keeper.

The Sharks increased their lead to 2-0 at 17:08 when Gammon collected the ball off a corner and tipped it into the back of the net for her fourth tally of the year.

Simmons' final goal of the half came from Klane at 24:39, when she gathered the ball on the right flank and fired a shot past the Cadets' netminder to give the Sharks a 3-0 lead.

Klane factored into her second goal of the evening, just over 19 minutes into the second half. The forward assisted on Simmons' fourth goal of the game as she lifted a cross into the box, where Cottam headed the ball into the net for her first collegiate goal.

First year forward Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) and Gammon assisted on Klane's second goal of the match and team-high fifth of the season to bump the margin to 5-0 at 67:09 of the second stanza. The pair combined to switch the field to Klane who launched a shot into the back of the net.

Senior midfielder Allison Bondi (Macomb, Mich.) capped the scoring for the Sharks with 10:13 left in the match, when she collected the ball from first year forward Amber Nobbs (Granville, Mass.) at the top of the box and rocketed a shot for a 6-0 lead. The assist was the first collegiate point for Nobbs. Simmons' bid for a third straight shutout was dashed when Norwich got on the board just 1:34 later after first year forward Madison Oelker (West Liberty, Ohio) directed a ball into the six-yard box that ended up in the back of the Sharks' net off a defender's foot.

Starting junior goalkeeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) went uncontested in the first half of play for Simmons to earn the victory. Sophomore goalie Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) began the second half, playing the opening 25:42 of the period, before first year keeper Margaret Davies (Wayland, Mass.) made her collegiate debut and stopped one of two shots in the final 19:18 of play. Senior keeper Holly Lutz (Hamburg, N.J.) turned away 12 of 18 shots for the Cadets, before yielding to first year goalie Miranda Lloyd (Mesquite, Texas) for the final 6:49 of action in her collegiate debut.

The Sharks are back in action at home on Daly Field on Saturday, October 8 when they welcome GNAC rival Lasell College for an 11:00 a.m. start. Norwich plays host to conference opponent Suffolk University on the same day for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
