Gilbert Named GNAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s soccer player Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of September 19-25, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College women's soccer player Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of September 19-25, it was announced today by the league. 

In two matches, the first year recorded an assist for one point on the week. The forward assisted on the Sharks' game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Westfield State University on September 21. 

For the season, the Falmouth High School product ranks third on the team with five points and is tied for the team lead with a pair of goals. Her goal total is also tied for tops among conference rookies and 15th among all players in the league. Gilbert has started two of six matches she's played in and owns a .286 shot percentage for the second-highest mark on the squad. The rookie tallied her first collegiate goals with a pair of markers in a 7-0 victory over Rivier University on September 10. 

Simmons is currently 2-5-1 overall, including 1-2-0 in league play. The Sharks will be in action again on Wednesday, September 28 when they host cross-street and GNAC rival Emmanuel College on Daly Field at 7:00 p.m.
