STANDISH, Maine - The Saint Joseph's College (Maine) women's soccer team netted a goal in each half to come away with a 2-0 victory this afternoon over visiting Simmons College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference at Westerly Field in Standish, Maine. The Sharks fall to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in league play, while the Monks improve to 5-4-1 and 2-0-1.

The contest was evenly played with Saint Joseph's holding a slim 13-12 shooting edge and Simmons taking a pair of corner kicks to the home team's total of one.

Sophomore forward Haley DeGraca (Saco, Maine) scored her ninth marker of the season at the 15:54 mark of the first half to give the Monks 1-0 edge. The Sharks owned a 9-7 shooting margin for the opening half, but were unable to score on the day.

Junior midfielder Lauren Stiles (Gorham, Maine) found the back of the net just 2:17 into the second half to pad the Saint Joseph's lead to 2-0.

Simmons put together a pair of shots in a 12-second span early in the first half, but came up empty. Junior forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) had her shot thwarted by a defender at the 11:57 mark and sophomore forward Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) followed with a scoring chance 12 seconds later that was blocked by a Monks' defender.

Junior keeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) registered six saves for the Sharks, who have yet to allow more than two goals in any match this season, while junior Brooke Toupe (East Bruidgewater, Mass.

Simmons will be in action again on Wednesday, September 28 when it heads down the street to take on GNAC and cross-street rival Emmanuel College for a 7:00 p.m. match at Roberto Clemente Field. The Monks travel to Newton, Mass. to take on Mount Ida College at 3:30 p.m.
