BOSTON, Mass. - Senior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) netted both goals, including the game-winner in overtime to give the Simmons College women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over host Emmanuel College this evening on Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their fifth straight to improve to 8-6-0 overall and 7-1-0 in league play, while the Saints fall to 8-8-0 and 6-2-0.

Emmanuel owned a 26-10 shot advantage, but the Simmons defense, which has allowed just two goals in its last six contests, held strong, anchored by senior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.), who stopped 12 shots to preserve the victory.

Gilbert scored an unassisted goal with just 83 seconds left in overtime to give the Sharks the victory. It was the seventh marker of the season for the forward and the only shot of the extra period for Simmons.

The teams played without a score in the opening half, despite the Saints holding an 11-1 shot count over their guests. Gilbert finally broke through in the 80th minute when sophomore forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) was able to play a ball over the top of the Emmanuel back line and onto Gilbert's foot. Gilbert chipped the ball over the Saints' keeper, who had charged towards the ball, and watched it glide into the back of the net at 79:22 of the second half for a 1-0 Sharks' lead.

Emmanuel took advantage of a corner kick when senior forward Molly Carey (Swampscott, Mass.) served the ball into the box where senior midfielder Katelyn Fink (Sanford, Maine) converted it into her third goal of the season with a header to knot the match at 1-1 with 6:49 to play in regulation.

Both teams had chances in the final six minutes of regulation to end the match with Simmons sophomore back Liz Donovan (Nashua, N.H.) taking aim on net that resulted in a save and first year midfielder Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.) being denied for the Saints with just 26 seconds to go. Generis was also stopped in the ninth minute of the overtime.

Sophomore keeper Victoria LaRoche (Hudson, N.H.) made four saves for Emmanuel.

The Sharks will be in action again on Saturday, October 17 when they host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Winsor Field at 3:30 p.m., while the Saints host Mount Ida College on the same day at 12:00 p.m.
