Gammon Hat Trick Leads Soccer at Norwich, 4-1

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Sophomore forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) registered her first career hat trick to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over host Norwich University this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match in Northfield, Vt. The Sharks win their third straight match to improve to 6-6-0 overall and 5-1-0 in league play, while the Cadets fall to 2-8-1 and 0-5-1.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Sophomore forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) registered her first career hat trick to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over host Norwich University this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match in Northfield, Vt. The Sharks win their third straight match to improve to 6-6-0 overall and 5-1-0 in league play, while the Cadets fall to 2-8-1 and 0-5-1.

Simmons dominated the scoring chances with a 36-8 shot advantage and owned a 7-1 margin on corner kicks. 

Gammon set the tone for the Sharks, scoring the first two markers of the evening within the first 17-plus minutes of play. Her first tally came in the sixth minute at the 5:29 mark of the opening half, before senior midfielder Victoria Russo (Braintree, Mass.) found her for her second score of the match at the 17:07 mark to give Simmons a 2-0 lead. Gammon's final goal of the evening came on a header and gave the Sharks a 4-1 lead with just under 22 minutes to play in the game. Sophomore forward Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) assisted Gammon on her team-high eighth goal of the season at 68:43.

Senior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) increased the Simmons first half margin to 3-0 when she found the back of the net for her fifth tally of the season at 23:29.

Norwich scored the first goal of the second half to get on the board just 84 seconds into the period. Sophomore forward Tiana Cass (Torrington, Conn.) broke through for her fourth goal of the season on a feed from first year midfielder Jordan Kacur (Red Creek, N.Y.) to make it 3-1 at 46:24 of the half. 

Senior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) turned away two shots to earn the victory for the Sharks, while first year goalie Brooke Dewyea (Piercefield, N.Y.) made 22 saves for the Cadets.

Simmons returns to play on Saturday, October 10 when it heads to East Boston, Mass. to take on conference rival Suffolk University at 7:00 p.m., while Norwich hosts Rivier University on October 12 at 4:30 p.m.
