Elliott, Berkman Lead Soccer over Mount Ida, 8-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? Six different players scored for the Simmons College women?s soccer team, including two goals each from senior midfielder Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) and first year forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) to lead the team to an 8-0 victory over visiting Mount Ida College this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 2-4-4 and 0-2-2.

BOSTON, Mass. – Six different players scored for the Simmons College women's soccer team, including two goals each from senior midfielder Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) and first year forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) to lead the team to an 8-0 victory over visiting Mount Ida College this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-6-0 overall and 3-1-0 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 2-4-4 and 0-2-2. 

Simmons outshot the visitors 21-5 for the match and scored seven times in the first half of play. 

The Sharks scored five goals in just under 21 minutes of play to open the contest and take control of the game. Berkman scored her third and fourth goals of the year, including her second goal of the night to give Simmons a 5-0 margin at 20:55 of the first half. Elliott contributed to each of the Sharks' final three goals of the evening with a pair of scores and an assist. Senior midfielder Victoria Russo (Braintree, Mass.) and sophomore forward Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) both had a hand in a pair of markers for Simmons with a goal and an assist for each. Sophomore forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) notched her third goal of the year for the Sharks and senior back Issy Verrilli (Naugatuck, Conn.) found the back of the net for her first collegiate score. Senior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) also chipped in with two assists. 

Sophomore forward Alee Bonola (Windsor, Conn.) and first year midfielder Emily Oltmanns (Golden, Colo.) each attempted two shots to lead the Mount Ida offense. 

Senior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) earned the victory with a scoreless first half of play for Simmons, while classmate Amber Verrill (Windham, Maine) made a save in 24:18 of action to start the second half and sophomore keeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) stopped a shot in the final 20:42 to secure the shutout for the Sharks. First year goalie Kelsey Parkin (Standish, Maine) turned away 10 shots for the Mustangs. 

Simmons will be in action again on Saturday, October 3 when it heads to Nashua, N.H. to take on GNAC foe Rivier University at 1:00 p.m., while Mount Ida travels to West Hartford, Conn. on the same day for a 1:00 p.m. match at University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).
