Soccer Edged by Westfield State, 1-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Simmons College women's soccer team was defeated by visiting Westfield State University, 1-0,  this evening on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 3-5-0 on the season, while the Owls improve to 3-3-0.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women's soccer team was defeated by visiting Westfield State University, 1-0,  this evening on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 3-5-0 on the season, while the Owls improve to 3-3-0. 

Westfield State made the most of their opportunities as Simmons held a 29-9 shot advantage, including 11-2 in the first half. 

Junior midfielder Taylor Grijalva (Stratham, N.H.) tallied the only goal of the match when she beat the Sharks' keeper and found the open net for her first marker of the season at 71:24 of the second half to give the Owls a 1-0 edge. 

Stack turned away 11 shots to post her second straight shutout and ninth of her career to earn the victory for Westfield State. 

First year Ciara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) led Simmons with six shots, including three on net. Senior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) made five saves for the home team. 

The Sharks will be in action again on Saturday, September 26 when they travel to Newton, Mass. to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Lasell College at 2:30 p.m., while the Owls head to Fitchburg, Mass. to take on Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Fitchburg State University at 5:00 p.m. on the same day.
