Soccer Defeated at Wellesley, 2-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Simmons College women's soccer team was defeated by host Wellesley College, 2-0, this afternoon in the Babson Classic in Wellesley, Mass. The Sharks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Blue improve to 1-0.

Wellesley outshot Simmons, 15-6, including 10-2 in the second half.

The Blue got on the board in the 24th minute of the opening half when sophomore midfielder Gen Crotty (Oakville, Ontario) found classmate Erica Chalmers (Natick, Mass.) at the 23:03 mark for a 1-0 edge.

Wellesley stuck just once again in the second half on a scoring strike at 58:19 from sophomore forward Maddie Carlborg (Burbank, Calif.) to give it a 2-0 margin.

Sophomore forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) led the Sharks' offense with three shots, while five different players registered multiple shots for the Blue.

Senior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) turned away seven shots for Simmons, while senior goalie Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.) made a save for Wellesley.

The Sharks will take the pitch again tomorrow when they travel to Babson Park, Mass. to take on Babson College for a 2:30 p.m. start, while the Blue host Lesley University at 2:30 p.m.
