Three Sharks Receive GNAC Weekly Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons sophomore Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) and junior Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Lacrosse Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, announced Tuesday by the conference. BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Soccer senior Kristyn Heuslen (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding play in the Sharks victory over Albertus Magnus in the conference quarterfinals.

 

Heuslein scored the lone goal for the Sharks against Springfield College on Tuesday evening. The senior midfielder then scored the game-winning goal in penalty kicks to defeat the #2 Albertus Magnus Falcons and advanced to the GNAC semifinals.

 

Hayes made 20 saves against Springfield College on Tuesday and followed with a stellar performance against the Falcons forcing the quarterfinal match into double overtime. Hayes made several crucial saves during the penalty kicks as the Sharks advanced to the semifinals.

 

Simmons Swimming & Diving first year Shylee Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) was named GNAC Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week after capturing her first two individual wins against both Elms and Gordon in 200 IM and 100-Breast on Saturday. Stewart also swam the breaststroke on the winning 200 Medley Relay. She contributed 18 points to the Sharks final scores against both Elms and Gordon as Simmons begins the 2013-2014 season 3-0.
