Sharks Dominate GNAC Weekly Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -- With just one week of play in the books, Simmons dominated the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honors with four Sharks over three sports honored for their performance.

BOSTON, Mass. -- With just one week of play in the books, Simmons dominated the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honors with four Sharks over three sports honored for their performance.

 

Cross Country senior Ellen Girouard (Wrentham, Mass.) received Rookie of the Week honors for her performance at the Roger Williams Invitational on Saturday. In her collegiate debut, Girouard ran the 5K course in 21:47.65, averaging 7:00.9 per mile and finished second among all Sharks.

 

Sophomore Soccer goalkeeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) was named Goalkeeper of the week for her stellar performance against nationally ranked MIT on Monday. Hayes made several point blank saves to hold the Engineers to only one goal. She also anchored the team's defense in a 2-1 win over Castleton at the Rutland Herald Invitational to advance the Sharks to the championship game.

 

Simmons Tennis swept the weekly awards this week with senior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) named Player of the Week and first year Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio) receiving Rookie of the Week honors. Teague went a combined 5-0 this week in the #1 singles and doubles positions with wins against Mount Holyoke, Roger Williams and Clark. Reinhard went 3-0 at the #1 and #2 singles positions this week with wins vs. Mount Holyoke, Roger Williams and Clark. She also had doubles wins vs. Mount Holyoke and Clark.
