BOSTON, Mass. – Despite 17 shots on goal, the Simmons Sharks battled the Wellesley College Blue to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday evening in non-conference soccer action as the Sharks celebrated the team's three seniors, goalkeeper Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.), defender Mandy Walke (Danvers, Mass.), and forward Chelsea Hersey (Newburyport, Mass.).

The first half was even by both teams, with Wellesley holding a slight advantage in shots, 12-9. The Sharks saw their best opportunity of the half when a cross from Hersey found junior Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, N.H.) who headed the ball just over Wellesley's goalkeeper Claire Cerda at 37:01.

The Blue had a breakaway with 28 minutes remaining in the first half when the defense fed Lena Cardoso for the isolation. Wheeler came up huge for the Sharks, denying the shot with a diving save.

As the temperature dropped outside, the play continued to heat up between the rivals in the second half. Still scoreless, Wheeler made another huge save for the Sharks with 21 minutes to play as she timed a jump perfectly to tip the ball high of the net.

Regulation ended in a scoreless draw.

In the first overtime, each team had quality chances, as Sharks junior Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) connected with a free kick that went just high of the Blue's goal. Wheeler made her second diving save of the game on another Blue's breakaway, this time by Tristen Chin to keep the game even.

With the goalkeepers on their game, the Sharks and the Blue continued to battle into double overtime, as Chin found herself behind the Simmons defense for the second time but was unable to put the shot past Wheeler. With 23 seconds remaining, Simmons freshman Keri Acheson (Peabody, Mass.) tested Cerda one last time but was unable to capitalize.

The Sharks finish the regular season at 7-7-3 overall and travel to Albertus Magnus on Saturday, October 29th for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinal game at 1:00 p.m. The Blue return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m, traveling to Clark for their NEWMAC regular season finale.
