Simmons Soccer fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Johnson and Wales, 3-2, in a double overtime decision on Monday night. Two goals from sophomore Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) were not enough to lift the Sharks over the visitors in two regular half's and two wildly contested overtime periods. With the loss, Simmons falls to 5-8-1 (4-5 GNAC) while JWU advances to 6-7 (4-3 GNAC).

Sophomore keeper Ashley Donaghey (Framingham, Mass.) made several key saves to keep Simmons in the game as JWU outshot the Sharks 29-13 (14-8 on goal). Donaghey ended the night with 11 saves in 110 minutes of play.

Beauchamp struck first for the Sharks after nearly 31 minutes on a penalty kick after back-and forth play from both teams. The score would remain for the first half, leaving Simmons ahead, 1-0, at intermission.

JWU's Michelle Cranuzzo evened the score at 1-1 with a goal at the 69:38 mark off an assist from Colleen Marasco.

Beauchamp answered back with a floating free kick after a Wildcat foul that found the top left corner of the goal, bringing the Sharks up to 2-1.

Four minutes later, Samantha Reynolds booted in an unassisted ball just out of Donaghey's reach to tie things up once more, 2-2. The score remained tied for the final 12 minutes of the second half to send the game into overtime.

The first overtime passed by without a goal from either side, despite both teams playing with a heightened sense of urgency. Both Simmons and JWU took five shots each, and managed to stay clear of fouls.

In the second overtime, the lone shot from JWU's Amanda Aguiar ended the contest in the 104th minute, giving the Wildcats the 3-2 win.

In goal for JWU, Jennifer Hurley played the entirety of the match, making six saves.

Simmons will host Rivier for a GNAC matchup on Saturday, October 16 at 1:00pm, while Johnson and Wales will travel to Worcester State on Oct. 13 for a 7pm contest.
