Simmons Soccer wrapped up their fall 2010 campaign in late October, after a challenging season that tested the squad's toughness and adaptability. Four of seven seniors suffered career-ending injuries, pushing freshmen and sophomores to take larger roles on the team throughout the Sharks' schedule. Simmons persevered through the obstacles, finishing 6-10-1 overall, and 5-7-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

The team is already preparing to start fresh next year after learning how to adapt to unexpected challenges this fall. "I am confident that our team learned a lot, as their character was continuously tested. This will give them great experience heading into the 2011 season," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo.

Several high points on the season include a three-game win streak in September against conference opponents Mount Ida, Emerson and Pine Manor. The Sharks also scored 22 goals from 12 different players, speaking to the depth of the team.

Several athletes emerged as leaders for the Sharks in 2010. Sophomore midfielder Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) tallied 7 goals and 7 assists to lead the team with 21 points on the season. She was extremely dangerous on free kicks and was the only Shark to start in all 17 games. In the GNAC, Beauchamp ranks in the top ten for shots and assists in 2010.

Senior defender Allie Megna (North Hampton, N.H) started and played 16 of the Sharks' 17 matches this season. She served as a utility player and played in forward, midfield and defense positions. "Although she did not have the stats to show, her performance was key this season. She maintained composure and gave us consistency when we needed it the most," said Mastrogiacomo.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Donaghey (Framingham, Mass.) defended the Simmons goal in 14 out of 17 games this season for the Sharks. She currently ranks among the top ten in the GNAC for goals against average, saves (93), and shutouts (3).

Looking forward to 2011, Simmons Soccer will be a young team with eight sophomores, six juniors—including team scoring leaders Beauchamp and Ally Ayotte (Litchfield, N.H.)—and three seniors. "The seven seniors that are graduating in May have all been 90-minute players for the Sharks throughout their careers. My staff and I will look to bring in a strong first year class consisting of 8-10 high caliber athletes," said Mastrogiacomo.
