Senior goalkeeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, N.H.) posted her second shutout of the season to lead Simmons Soccer to a 2-0 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Suffolk University (2-2 overall, 0-2 GNAC) on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Sharks improve to 4-3-1, 2-0 in the GNAC.

Junior Anna Stella (Sharon, Mass.) scored the Sharks' first goal 42:25 into the first half. Sophomore Anna Bolton (Amherst, N.H.) broke free 30 yards out and took on two Suffolk defenders in front of the Rams' goal. Suffolk keeper Emily Joyce came off her line to make the save and Stella was there to push the rebound into the back of the net to take the lead 1-0

Bolton gave the Sharks a 2-0 edge in the second half as she broke past the Rams defense on a feed from junior Brooke MacKenzie

(Mansfield, Mass.). Bolton streaked down the left sideline and into the penalty area, slicing the ball past Joyce near the far post for her first goal of the season, lifting the score to 2-0 in the Sharks' favor.

"Although we got off to a slow start tonight, our team was able to come away with another conference win," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo. "Anna Bolton was a key substitution, contributing on both goals. We looked much more organized in the second half and we created a strong attack putting Suffolk under pressure."

The Rams put four shots on goal but could not get any past Elliot, who played a tremendous game in goal for the Sharks. Elliot recorded her second shutout of the season, making four saves on the night. "Rachel was quick coming off her line to clear through balls and was vocal while organizing the Simmons backline," said Mastrogiacomo.

Simmons will continue Great Northeast Athletic Conference play when they host Mount Ida College on Saturday, September 19 at 1:00pm.
