The Simmons Soccer team picked up their fourth win of the season on Saturday against the Pine Manor Gators with a final score of 7-1. The Sharks improve to 4-10-1 overall and 3-6 in the GNAC.

The Sharks came out ready to play against Pine Manor, taking the 1-0 lead just one minute into the game. Junior Emily DiNuovo (Palmer, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season, unassisted, to give the Sharks the early lead.

Pine Manor scored their only goal of the game in the first half against the Sharks. Sophomore Jacqueline Sprague would score unassisted at the ten minute mark for the Gators, to tie the game, but it would not be enough against the Sharks.

The Sharks would score 3 more goals in the first half, with sophomore Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) scoring 2 of the 3 goals. MacKenzie would score her first goal of the game at the 15 minute mark, off of an assist by junior Kelly Muirhead (Middleboro, Mass.). She then would score 28.48 into the game off of an assist by Emily DiNuovo. This goal would come just three seconds after teammate sophomore Anya Bottaro (Winchester, Mass.) scored unassisted for the Sharks.

In the second half the Sharks would tally three more goals, with MacKenzie scoring unassisted to get her third goal of the game. Muirhead would record her second assist of the game, feeding teammate sophomore Anna Stella (Sharon, Mass.) at the 58 minute mark. Bottaro would score her second goal of the game unassisted for the Sharks, to give the Sharks the 7 to 1 win.

"Our team came out hungry for goals this afternoon. We know how critical it is to get some wins out of our remaining GNAC matches to qualify for post season play," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo. "Every player contributed in today's match against Pine Manor and it was refreshing to see that we are capable of putting the ball in the goal after a 4 game dry spell".

Junior Rachel Elliott (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) split time in goal for the Sharks. Wheeler had 3 saves in goal for her team.

The Sharks will be back in action against Suffolk University on Tuesday October 21, 2008 at 7:00pm on the Winsor School Field for their final home game of the regular season.
