The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced Monday evening the selection of Anna Stella (Sharon, MA) as Women?s Soccer Rookie of the Week.

Sharks Soccer recorded their second win of the season on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Salve Regina, boosting them to 2-2 overall for the 2008 season.

Simmons scored two times in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Anna Stella (Sharon, MA) found her mark twice for the Sharks, in her first multi-goal game of her collegiate career. Stella's first goal came in the 18th minute off a corner kick from the right side, with an assist from sophomore midfielder Kelley Saucier (Waterville, ME). Stella's second goal came in the 36th minute with an assist from sophomore midfielder Anya Bottaro (Winchester, MA). In the second half sophomore forward Allie Megna (Plymouth, MA) slipped one past the Salve goalkeeper in the 61st minute and was assisted by sophomore defender Brittany Staszowski (Lenox, MA) with a cross from the right side.

For Saucier and Bottaro, their assists in this match were their first collegiate assists as Sharks.

Salve managed to find the goal once in the second half, with Kalei Sullivan kicking in a cross from the left side from teammate Mallory LaPierre.

"Salve is a solid team and they put us under pressure right away," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo. "Our attack looked more organized and resulted in a higher number of shots on goal. This was a focus during our training session since we were not recording many scoring opportunities."

Two Sharks goalkeepers took part in the action. Rachel Elliott (Amherst, NH) played for 75 minutes, making 10 saves. Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, NH) played for the last 15 and made 8 saves, allowing only one goal. Salve's goalkeeper Katie Vaudrian made 14 saves, allowing 3.

Simmons Soccer returns to the pitch on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:30pm, away at Plymouth State.
