Simmons Soccer took a big win over GNAC foe Suffolk University at home on Tuesday night at The Winsor School Fields. The final score of 4-2 improves the Sharks' record to 5-10-1 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Suffolk's Meghan O'Connell scored the first goal of the game in the fourteenth minute, but the Sharks did not let the Rams have the lead for long. Just 20 seconds later, junior Kelly Muirhead (Middleboro, Mass.) scored the first goal for the Sharks off an assist from sophomore Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) to tie the game. Sophomore Allie Megna (North Hampton, N.H.) scored once more for the Sharks, unassisted, at the 44-minute mark, to set the score at 2-1 going into halftime.

The Sharks entered the second half energized, and found the back of the net once more. A feed from MacKenzie to Muirhead in the sixty-sixth minute pushed the Sharks to a 3-1 lead.

The Rams pushed to regroup, with Leslie Hayden scoring at the 73-minute mark, but it would not be enough to catch the Sharks. Sophomore Anya Bottaro (Winchester, Mass.) assisted MacKenzie soon after at the 74-minute mark to give the Sharks a 4-2 lead, which they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Elliott (Amherst, N.H.) had a solid day for the Sharks, recording 4 saves in the Sharks victory.

"I am very pleased with the result of tonight's game against Suffolk," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo. "My staff and I were excited to see the team's determined response of being down a goal. Allie Megna played the best game of her career for us in the midfield last night. She controlled the pace the game and distributed to her teammates consistently and accurately. Kelly Muirhead also had a strong performance for us. She has the ability to motivate her teammates through her hustle. She never stops working and her second effort is always there."

The Sharks return to action when they travel to Nashua, NH to take on the Rivier Raiders, Saturday October 25, 2008 at 3:00pm.
