Simmons Soccer took part in the Endicott College SoccerFest on Sunday, April 26 as a finale to their spring season training. The Sharks went 3-0-1 on the day, scoring 11 goals and allowing only three.

The Sharks opened the day against an alumni team from Endicott. Lindsey Butler notched the first goal off a pass from Anna Stella to take the lead 1-0. The EC alums answered back with a long range shot just out of the reach of Simmons keeper, Ashley Wheeler. Sharks midfielder Brooke MacKenzie combined with Anna Stella to take the lead once again. The EC Alumni would find the net one more time to end the first match in a 2-2 draw.

The second match against Westfield State proved to be a physical battle that Simmons would eventually win. The Sharks battled back and forth with Westfield until outside-midfielder Lindsey Butler rang a shot off the crossbar and Anna Bolton headed in the rebound to put the Sharks on the board, 1-0. That goal was all it would take for the Sharks to walk away with the win.

Next, Simmons faced Bay Path College, and the Sharks' offense exploded with 6 goals. Midfielder Brina Kelly opened the scoring with an unassisted tally in the opening minutes of the game. The next five goals surrounded sophomore Anna Stella, as she had an assist on goals by Lindsey Butler, Brooke MacKenzie and Brittany Staszowski. Stella was also able to convert two goals off passes from Allie Megna and Brooke MacKenzie. The Sharks finished the game 6-0 as they headed into the final match of the day.

Wellesley College would be the last team to face the hungry Sharks. After stripping the ball from a Wellesley defender, Anna Bolton found the back of the net to put the Sharks up, 1-0. The Sharks' defense, anchored by keeper Ashley Wheeler and central defender Katie Foley, shut down many opportunities for the Wellesley Blue. Brittany Staszowski found herself all alone on the right flank as she launched a long range shot that the Blue keeper could not reach, to push the Sharks to a 2-0 lead. The game grew more physical and Wellesley was able to make it 2-1, but that was not enough to overcome the Sharks.

"I am very pleased with the results from our spring tournament and the commitment from our student-athletes during our off-season has been impressive," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo. "As a staff, we are very excited for the 2009 fall season and we are confident that our student-athletes will return with fire in their eyes to make a run for the conference title."
