BRIGHTON, Mass. – Junior attacker Frida Turriza registered a career single-game high nine goals as Simmons lacrosse (7-4, 5-2 GNAC) extended its winning streak to five games with an 18-10 victory over Norwich University (6-3, 4-2 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks set the tone early. After forcing a turnover in the first seconds of the game, Turriza put Simmons on the board a minute into the contest. Seconds later, Turriza made a two-goal game converting on a free position to take a 2-0 lead. Before the five-minute mark eclipsed in the quarter, junior Maddie Desimio-Maloney buried the the third goal of the game.

However, Norwich finally broke up the shut-out scoring, a player-down, but Simmons answered. Turriza and first-year Lauren Krupnikoff gave the Sharks a four-goal advantage, scoring on a pair of free positions. But the Cadets were not going away. After closing the gap to two, 5-3, Turriza ended the first period with her fourth goal of the quarter and make it a 6-3 game.

Norwich begin the second quarter with a goal by Tori Jarvis, but Simmons rattling off a string of four unanswered goals. Sophomore Campbell Crane connected with Desimio-Maloney to ignite the run, while senior attacker Julia Chausse capped it with a free position with five minutes to play in the half. The Cadets capitalized on a player-advantage scoring in the 11th minute of the second half as the Sharks took a 10-5 lead into halftime.

When the teams emerged from the locker room at the start of the second half, the momentum remained on the side of the Sharks. Junior Layla Drinkwater sparked a 6-0 run tor the Sharks and broke the game wide-open after sprinting up the near-side of the field for fourth goal of the season.

For the next seven minutes, the Cadets could do little to calm the Sharks offense. Turriza and Krupnikoff took advantage of being up a player and scored a pair of goals, while Crane netted a free position goal.

Heading into the final quarter of play with a comfortable 10-goal lead, the Cadets were able to outscore the Sharks, 3-1. But the damage had already been done as Simmons cruised to their fifth straight victory.
