Lacrosse Earns Fourth Straight Win With 15-5 Victory over New England College

HENNIKER, N.H. – Simmons lacrosse (6-6, 4-2 GNAC) climbed back to .500 on the season and picked up its fourth straight win following a 15-5 victory over New England College (3-6, 1-4 GNAC) on the road, Tuesday evening.

Junior attacker Frida Turriza gave a Sharks a quick 2-0 lead early in the first quarter. Moments later fellow junior Maddie Desimio-Maloney connected with sophomore Campbell Crane to push the lead to three. After New England managed to put themselves on the board late in the period, the Sharks took advantage of a player advantage with just over minute to play. Crane connected with junior Kat Wood to increase the lead to 4-1 to end the period. 

The Pilgrims inched closer scoring two goals in the opening minutes of the second quarter to pull within one of the Sharks lead. But four minutes Turriza widen the lead scoring the fifth Sharks goal with nine minutes to play in the half to take a 5-3 lead into the break. 

When the teams return to play at the start of the third quarter, the Pilgrims cut the deficit back to one goal. It did not last for very long as Crane and Turriza registered back-to-back goals within two minutes of each other to pull ahead, 7-4.

New England managed to closed the gap to two, 7-5, scoring with under four minutes remaining in the third, but it was the last time they would find the back of the net. In the final seven seconds of the third quarter, senior Julia Chausse connected with both Desimio-Maloney and Wood to give Simmons a 9-5 lead heading into the final stanza.

The Sharks exploded offensively, ending the game with an 8-0 run as they took advantage of three player advantages in the final period. Turriza added two more goals in the fourth to finish with a career single-game best six goals. Graduate senior Riley Wasiuk got into the scoring action, tallying her 11th goal of the season, while senior Cameron Richards and first-year Lauren Krupnikoff joined with a pair of free positions goals in the period.
