Lacrosse Tripped Up By Colby-Sawyer on the Road

NEW LONDON, N.H. – Simmons lacrosse (2-6, 0-2 GNAC) fell to Colby-Sawyer College (5-2, 1-1 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday afternoon.

The Chargers were jumped out in front early, taking a quick 4-0 lead, before the Sharks to advantage of a player-up opportunity for their first score of the game. It appeared as momentum may have been swinging towards the Sharks bench midway through the first quarter.

First-year Lauren Krupnikoff forced a turnover by the Chargers' Olivia Romo that culminated in the Sharks first goal. Junior attacker Frida Turriza connected with fellow classmate Maddie Desimio-Maloney to put the Sharks on the scoreboard.

However, Colby-Sawyer responded with six unanswered goals to go into halftime with a commanding, 10-1 advantage. Simmons was unable to suppress the Chargers offense as they continued to build upon their lead with another three goals in the third quarter. 

Defensively, sophomore Leah Finn had a herself a day. The Maine native was solid defensively registering four caused turnovers, while scooping up five ground balls against the Chargers. 

SIMMON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Junior Maddie Desimio-Maloney registered two goals for the second time this season – first since the Sharks defeated Mount Holyoke, 17-4, early in the season on February 24.
  • Sophomore Leah Finn played outstanding defensively, eclipsing a career single-game high in both caused turnovers (4) and ground balls (5).
  • First-year Lauren Krupnikoff notched three caused turnovers, while also scooping up a pair of ground balls.
