Chausse, Stoller Combine For Nine Goals; Lacrosse Overpowers University of St. Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Simmons lacrosse (14-2, 11-1 GNAC) extended its winning streak to nine games with an 18-3 victory over the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action, Saturday afternoon.

In the opening two minutes of the game, Chausse connected with fellow sophomore attacker Cameron Richards to put the Sharks in front, 1-0. The conference leader in goals, Makenzie Dinger scored the equalizer for the Blue Jays to knot up the contest at one. However, the Sharks responded with three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Stoller opened the second period, finding the back of the net on a free-position shot for her third goal of the game and increase the Simmons lead to four. Dinger brought the Blue Jays back to within three, two minutes later, but first-year attacker Kat Wood ignited a 4-0 run with a free-position goal at 8:20. Twenty seconds later, Stoller scored her fourth goal, and third free-position goal of the game, to give the Sharks a 7-2 lead. 

With just over two minutes remaining in the half, Chausse buried her second goal of the game to push the lead to six. Wood capped off the mini 4-0 run, scoring her second goal of the period 27 seconds later to send Simmons into the break with a 9-2 lead.

Less than 15 seconds since taking the field at the start of the second half, first-year Maddie Desimio-Maloney connected with junior Emi Boedeker for the Sharks 10th goal of the game. Chausse scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 10, before Richards recorded her second of the game to increase the lead to 13-2. Midway through the period, lightning struck twice as Desimio-Maloney found Boedeker in front of the net for the Sharks' 14th goal. Stoller concluded the quarter with her, game-leading, fifth goal as the Sharks took a commanding 15-2 lead into the final period.  

Dinger began the fourth quarter with her third goal of the game, but Simmons answered with three goals – two from Desmio-Maloney as the Sharks went on to earn their 14th victory of the season.
