Stoller and Chausse Surpass Lacrosse Single-Season Goal and Assist Mark in Win Over Regis

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Registering a career single-game high eight goals, graduate senior Abby Stoller surpassed the Simmons lacrosse (12-2, 9-1 GNAC) program record for goals in a season in a 22-2 victory over Regis College (2-10, 2-7 GNAC), Tuesday evening.  

First-year attacker Kat Wood putting the Sharks on the board first, finding the back of the net 4:33 into the contest on feed from sophomore attacker Julia Chausse. Three minutes later Chausse gave Simmons a two-goal advantage, which held for three minutes before the Sharks were off to the races. Wood scored back-to-back goals within a minute of each other to increase the lead to four. Nineteen seconds later, Stoller scored the fifth goal, before Chausse concluded the first quarter with a pair of goals to take a, 7-0 lead.

Entering the game three assists shy of tying the Sharks program record for assists in a season, Chausse tied the mark midway through the second period. The East Freetown, Massachusetts native connected with Stoller at 8:14 of the second to give Simmons an 11-1 lead and tie the previous mark. Late in the period, down a player Chausse found junior Liz Krenicky with a 1:18 left for the 12th Sharks goal and become the new Simmons single-season assist leader. Right before the end of the first half, sophomore midfielder Marita Nothacker took advantage of a player-up opportunity and sent the Sharks into the locker room with a 13-2 lead.

Returning to the field at the start of the second half, Stoller recorded two of Simmons' three goals in the third quarter. In the opening two minutes, Nothacker found Stoller to increase the lead to 14-2. Midway through the period, sophomore attacker Cameron Richards pushed the margin to 13 with her eighth goal of the season. Just before the end of the third, Chausse and Stoller connected with 31 seconds remaining on the clock to give Simmons the 16-2 lead.

Stoller opened the fourth period the same way she ended the third, scoring her seventh goal of the game. Three minutes later, she scored her career single-game best eighth goal on a player-advantage, free-position shot to increase the Shark lead to 18-2. Five different Sharks scored in the final quarter, including first-year Layla Drinkwater registering her first goal of her collegiate career seal the victory. 

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Elliott played 45 minutes in net recording one save to earn the victory and improve to 12-2. Fellow senior goalkeeper Erin McIntyre played 15 minutes, tallying three saves. 

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Graduate senior Abby Stoller recorded a career single-game high eight goals and surpassed the program single season mark for goals with her goal at 8:14 of the second period. She currently has 63 on the season.
  • Sophomore attacker Julia Chausse also eclipsed a program season record for assists with her assist to junior Liz Krenick on a player-down opportunity with a 1:18 left to go in the first half.
  • Chausse tallied five assists on the night – one shy of her career single-game high – and currently has 24 on the season.
  • Sophomore Marita Nothacker registered a career single-game high five caused turnovers.

GAME NOTES

  • Simmons won the draw control battle, 16-10, and scooped up 20 ground balls.
  • The Sharks were successful on 17 of 18 clear attempts. 
  • The victory is the seventh straight win for Simmons.
