Chausse Records Second Straight Hat-Trick to Lead Lacrosse to Victory Over Rivier

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Sophomore attacker Julia Chausse tallied her second straight hat-trick from to help lead Simmons (6-2, 3-1 GNAC) to a 20-4 win over Rivier (2-6, 1-5 GNAC), Tuesday evening.

The first quarter started with an early goal from Chausse from senior Abby Stoller. Simmons saw its offensive fire power come from five different scorers, including a pair of goals from junior attackers Lauren Whitman and Liz Krenicky. Sophomore midfielder Marita Nothacker scored the final goal of the quarter with 1:29 remaining, to push the lead to 8-0.

After Rivier broke up the shutout three minutes into the second period, Chausse answered with her second goal of the game. The score remained 9-1 for the next six minutes before the Raiders cut the deficit to seven, but Chausse connected with first-year attacker Kat Wood to re-gain the eight-point advantage. The Simmons offense finished the first half with four unanswered goals, to take a 13-2 lead into the locker room.  

Following a strong first half, the third quarter began with first-year Lauren Whitman finding senior midfielder Lilly Devitt in the opening seconds. Junior attacker Sammi Hogan scored off of a free position early into the quarter, followed with a goal by Kat Wood. With 13 seconds remaining the quarter, the Raiders snapped a 7-0 Shark run for the third goal of the game.

Sophomore midfielder Marita Nothacker opened the final period with her third goal of the game, but Rivier swiftly responded scoring on a player-advantage opportunity. However, the Sharks answered with three straight goals from sophomore Mia Suchy, sophomore Leah Manfra and Stoller to seal the victory.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore attacker Julia Chausse registered her third hat-trick of the season.
  • Fellow sophomore Marita Nothacker also recorded a hat-trick, tallying a career single-game best three goals.
  • Graduate senior Abby Stoller finished the night tallying four goals and an assist for five points on the evening.

GAME NOTES

  • Simmons improves to 10-2 against Rivier all-time, winning its last three meetings.
  • The Sharks dominated shot advantage 50-5, as well as draw controls, winning 21 out of 26.
