Trio of First Career Goals Propels Lacrosse over Anna Maria

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Junior Bailey Edwards, Riley Campbell and senior Zoe Robertson each netted their first collegiate career goals to lift Simmons lacrosse (5-1, 2-0 GNAC) to 20-0 shutout over Anna Maria College (2-4, 0-3 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, Saturday afternoon. Junior Lauren Whitman also registered a career single-game high, dishing out five assists and tallying seven points. 

Whitman was one of three Sharks to record a single-game best. Sophomore Leah Manfra scored three straight goals at the end of the first quarter, while senior Lilly Devitt tied her career high with three goals. 

Simmons dominated play with a 36-5 shot advantage, while also winning the draw control, 15-7. Sophomore attacker Julia Chausse connected with Whitman to score the opening goal of the first quarter. Graduate midfielder Abby Stoller and sophomore attacker Leah Manfra each registered three goals apiece, along with goals from junior Sammi Hogan and Chausse to take an 11-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Sharks have outscored opponents, 38-7, in the first period of the game.

The Simmons offense kept firing moving into the second quarter. Junior Emi Boedeker scored her first goal of the season three minutes into the period, before Devitt score on a player advantage opportunity to take a 13-0 lead. The Sharks scored twice more in the period on goals from Hogan and Marita Nothacker to lead, 15-0 at the half.

Following goals by Stoller and sophomore Mia Suchy in the third quarter, the final 15 minutes of the game saw three players score their first collegiate career goals. With nine minutes remaining in regulation, Campbell found the back of the net. Four minutes later Robertson buried one for her first, while Edwards round out the 12 players scoring late in the period.

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Elliott picked up her fifth win of the season, improving to 5-1, registering one save in the game.
