Celebrating Women's History Month with Lacrosse Senior Zoe Robertson

Throughout Women's History Month, the Simmons Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will reflect on the importance of celebrating Women's History Month and the inspirations in their life. Today, we feature Simmons lacrosse senior Zoe Robertson on the inspirations in her life.

1. Who throughout women's history has been inspirational to you and your life?
There are many women who have been inspirational to me throughout my life. As a child, I looked up to Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe. Both were women who were amazing players on the field and advocates for women's rights off the field. As I have gotten older, I realized, that as cliché as it sounds, my mom and my coach are two women who have inspired me the most. They both supported me through difficult times while encouraging my career in lacrosse. They helped me find my confidence on and off the field and pushed me to limits that I didn't even know I had. I work hard for myself and for them because I know, thanks to their encouragement and support, I am capable of anything.

2. What does women's history month mean to you?
Women's history month is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of every single woman. Not just the famous ones, but the small feats that ever woman has made in their life. It is important to celebrate the small wins as well as the big victories. It is a time to celebrate your own accomplishments and be supported by those around you.

3. How do you celebrate and show the importance of women's history within your team?
I do my best to keep a positive mindset for my team and to be my teammates biggest supporter. I like to look out for the little wins, great plays, or crazy cuts that they make in practices and games and shout them out for it. Every single one of my teammates are capable of amazing things, sometimes they need someone to celebrate their small victories or give them encouragement and I am honored to be that person.

4. How will transition from learning from the inspirational women you mentioned in
I am still working on being as inspirational of a leader as a women in my life. The biggest thing I have learned from them both is you need to be proud of yourself and your accomplishments in order for you to support others and for them to support you. It is ok to be vulnerable, in fact, most leaders are, but that is why they are an inspiration. The women in my life are not afraid to take chances and to support others because they are confident in themselves. I am still working on following in the footsteps of the inspirational women in my life, but I am grateful to have such incredible people to model my leadership ability after.
