Lacrosse Overpowers Salem State, 17-6

SALEM, Mass. – Simmons lacrosse improved to 2-1 on the season with a commanding 17-6 win over non-conference Salem State University on Monday evening.

Graduate senior Abby Stoller led the way, tying her career single-game high, scoring six goals – three in the first period – while also registering three assists for a single-game best nine points. Senior Lilly Devitt and junior Liz Krenicky followed up with three points of their own, tallying a goal and two assists.

Devitt connected with sophomore attacker Cameron Richards in the opening seconds to start an eight-point first. Quarter for the Sharks. Stoller gave Simmons their second goal of the game receiving a pass from junior Sammi Hogan. Stoller later picked up her first assist of the game, connecting with first-year Kat Wood with under five minutes remaining in the quarter. Wood was one of three players to record multiple goals in the period.

The offense continued into the second quarter. Sophomore Marita Nothacker registered a pair of goals, including opening with goal from Hogan. Hogan concluded a 13-point first half with her fourth goal of the season to send Simmons into the locker room with a 14-1 lead.

Returning to the field in the second half, Stoller connected with sophomore Leah Manfra for her first goal on the year in the waning minutes of the third quarter. First-year Maddie Desimio-Maloney rounded out the scoring midway through the fourth period.

Senior goalkeeper Nicole Elliott earned her second win of the season, improving to 2-1 tallying 11 saves on the night.

GAME NOTES

  • Simmons outshot Salem State 33-19.
  • The Sharks won the draw control battle, 16-7 and scooped up 31 ground balls compared to the Vikings 24.
