Hogan Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

Simmons University Lacrosse Player Samantha Hogan Class of 2023

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Samantha Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of March 9-15, it was announced today by the league.

Hogan becomes the third different newcomer to earn the award in as many weeks for the Sharks and marks the first time in conference history that three different players from the same institution have received the honor in the same season. Previously, Simmons first year Lauren Whitman (Mansfield, Mass.) was named the top rookie last week, while first year Emily Boedeker (Portland, Maine) was tapped for the week of February 24 to March 1.

Hogan netted eight goals in two matches for the Sharks, while adding two ground balls and a draw control. One of her eight goals was a game-winner and she was 1-2 in free position opportunities during the week. The first year netted a goal on her only shot to go with a ground ball vs. Nazareth College on March 9 and capped the week by tying the school record for goals by a rookie with seven in addition to picking up a ground ball and winning a draw control in the team's 17-6 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology on March 11. The attacker's single-game rookie goal total matched the number scored by Whitman earlier this season vs. Clark University on March 6 and teammate Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.), who netted seven goals vs. Albertus Magnus College on March 31, 2018 during her first campaign.

For the season, Hogan has seen action in five matches, while racking up 10 points, including nine goals to rank third on the team in both categories. She currently stands second among league rookies in goals, ranking behind Whitman. The Nursing major owns a .562 shooting percentage to rank third on the team and also has four ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. The attacker has notched at least one point in four of five matches for Simmons.

The Sharks are currently 4-1 on the season and off to the best start in school history.
