Elliott Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Nicole Elliott (Wayne, N.J.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week for the week of February 24 to March 1, it was announced today by the league. 

Elliott was outstanding in the Sharks' only match of the week, helping them to a 14-7 victory over host Salve Regina University on February 29. The sophomore transfer stopped 16 of 23 shots to post a .696 save percentage. The Wayne Valley High School product's 16 saves were the most-ever for a goalie in their Simmons debut, while also standing as the highest total in a season opener and victory since March 1, 2014 when Crystal Derosier (2012-15) made 21 saves in a 15-11 triumph over visiting Regis College (Mass.). Elliott was almost infallible in the first half of play for the Sharks, stopping 12 of 14 shots she faced, while the team was outshot, 17-8. The Psychology and Education major's prowess in net allowed the Simmons offense to build a 6-2 opening half advantage. She finished out the second stanza with four saves to help the Sharks secure the victory. 

The New Jersey native currently stands second among league leaders with a .696 save percentage and a 7.00 goals against average, while placing second in saves per game with 16.00 in 60 minutes of action. 

Elliott transferred from Albright College, where she saw action in seven contests as a first year and posted an 11.21 goals against mark to go with a .269 save percentage in 101:40 minutes of play. 

Simmons returns to action on Monday, March 2 when it opens its home slate vs. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 5:00 p.m. on Daly Field.
