Bragg Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week Again

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s lacrosse player Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of March 14-20, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons women's lacrosse player Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of April 25 to May 1, it was announced today by the league. 

Bragg earns the award for the second time this season after being named the top weekly rookie for March 14-20. First year attacker Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) also earned the honor for the Sharks for the week of April 4-10. 

Bragg led the Sharks last week with seven points on two goals and five assists to go with 10 draw controls and five ground balls in two matches. The midfielder began the week with a goal and two assists, while winning five draws in Simmons' 11-10 victory over Norwich University on April 26. The first year closed out the week with a four-point effort on a goal and three assists in addition to five draw controls and a game-high five ground balls in the team's 13-8 win at University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on April 30. 

The Belmont High School product has been one of the best rookies and well-rounded players in the league this season as one of just six players and two rookies in the league to rank among the top 20 in points (43/18th), goals (27/20th), assists (16/11th), ground balls (45/11th), draw controls (37/16th) and caused turnovers (18/17th). The Nursing major has started all 16 games and tallied at least one point in all but one match and multiple points in 11 contests. She tallied a season-best eight points on four goals and four assists vs. Massachusetts Maritime Academy on March 19. Bragg has recently become one of the team's best options on the draw, winning 26 draw controls in the last six matches. 

Simmons is currently 8-8 on the season, including 5-4 in league play and finished the season with the number five seed in the GNAC Championship Tournament. The Sharks, who have won three straight matches, will take on fourth-seeded Lasell College on Tuesday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. on the campus of Lasell.
