Women's Lacrosse Falls at Emmanuel, 15-8

BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's lacrosse team was beaten by host Emmanuel College this evening, 15-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Saints improve to 7-2 and 5-0.

BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College women's lacrosse team was beaten by host Emmanuel College this evening, 15-8, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Saints improve to 7-2 and 5-0.

Emmanuel controlled the draw, winning 18 of 25 draw controls and also owned a 39-24 shot advantage, including 23-12 in the second half.

First year midfielder Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) tallied three goals to lead Simmons and added three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover. Sophomore middie Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) and first year attacker Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals. Senior midfielder Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored a goal and also caused a team-high four turnovers and picked up three ground balls.

First year goalie Kenzie Rogers (Bourne, Mass.) registered a career-high 15 saves for the Sharks.

Senior midfielder Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) (7) and classmate Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) (4) combined to score 11 goals for the Saints. Higgins also racked up four assists, won eight draw controls, caused two turnovers and came up with four ground balls. Senior goalie Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) stopped 11 shots to earn the victory for Emmanuel.

Simmons erased a 2-0 deficit early in the opening half with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 edge with 14:22 left in the period. Bragg scored a pair of goals in a span of 42 seconds to tie the match, before Maiewski gave the Sharks the lead.

The Saints responded with three straight goals to close out the half and take a 5-3 margin into the intermission. Higgins found the back of the net, followed by two scores from Tuleja to give the home team the lead at 11:10 and an insurance goal at 3:36.

Tuleja and Maiewski traded goals to begin the second stanza, but Emmanuel took control of the contest with four goals in just under five minutes, including two each from Higgins and Tuleja as the Saints increased their advantage to 10-4 with 11:06 remaining in the game.

Fries interrupted the string with a goal for Simmons, but Emmanuel put two more goals on the board in an 11-second span to take a 12-5 cushion with 8:20 showing on the second half clock.

Bragg, Sheehan and Fries scored a goal each as the Sharks scored three of the next four goals, sans a score by Higgins for the Saints. Fries' tally pulled the visitors to within 13-8 with 3:23 remaining in the contest, but Emmanuel netted the final two goals of the night, thanks to Tuleja and junior attacker Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.), who were both assisted by junior midfielder Savannah Lundwall (Fiskdale, Mass.).

Simmons will be in action again on Saturday, April 16 when it hosts Emerson College at Winsor Field at 11:00 a.m., while the Saints travel to Weston, Mass.) on April 14 to play Regis College at 5:00 p.m.
