Maiewski Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s lacrosse player Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league today. The award marks the second time this season that the Sharks have been honored with the league?s top weekly rookie accolade. First year Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) was chosen for the week of March 14-20.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College women's lacrosse player Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league today. The award marks the second time this season that the Sharks have been honored with the league's top weekly rookie accolade. First year Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) was chosen for the week of March 14-20. 

In two matches, Maiewski tallied four goals and picked up a ground ball. The attacker's four goals were a career high and helped Simmons to a 20-8 victory over Mount Ida College on April 5. She also added a ground ball in the contest. 

For the season, the Northampton High School product has started all 10 matches for the Sharks, while ranking third on the team with 16 points and four assists. Her 12 goals on the year place her fourth among her teammates. The rookie owns a .444 shooting percentage for the third-most accurate mark on the squad in addition to collecting eight ground balls, winning a draw control and causing three turnovers. Maiewski has notched at least one point in eight of 10 games this season, including multiple points on six occasions. 

Simmons is currently 5-5 on the season, including 2-2 in league play. The Sharks will be in action again on Tuesday, April 12 when they head down the street to take on GNAC and Fenway rival Emmanuel College for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Clemente Field in Boston, Mass.
