Bragg Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College women?s lacrosse player Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of March 14-20, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College women's lacrosse player Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of March 14-20, it was announced today by the league. 

In two matches, the first year tallied 13 points on seven goals and six assists and added eight ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers, while owning a 63.6% shooting percentage. The midfielder scored three times on four shots and added a pair of assists in addition to four ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control in a 12-11 victory over Salve Regina University on March 16. The Belmont High School product capped the week by racking up a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists, while adding four ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover in the Sharks' 16-9 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on March 19. 

For the season, Bragg leads Simmons with 18 points, seven assists and 19 ground balls in five matches. A Nursing major, Bragg currently ranks among the league's top eight with 11 goals (eighth) and a 57.9% (fourth) shooting percentage as well as assists (fourth), points (eighth) and ground balls (sixth). She is one of two players in the conference to rank among the top eight in those five categories. 

The Sharks have won two straight games and are currently 3-2 on the season. Simmons returns to action on Tuesday, March 22 when it hosts Curry College for an 8:00 p.m. contest on Winsor Field.
