Bragg Nets Three Goals to lead Lacrosse in 15-4 loss to Smith

BOSTON, Mass. - First year attack Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) netted three goals to lead the Simmons College women's lacrosse team in a 15-4 loss to visiting Smith College on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 1-2 on the season, while the Pioneers earn their first win of the year to improve to 1-2 as well.
BOSTON, Mass. - First year attack Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) netted three goals to lead the Simmons College women's lacrosse team in a 15-4 loss to visiting Smith College on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 1-2 on the season, while the the Pioneers earn their first win of the year to improve to 1-2 as well.
 
Bragg added two ground balls and a caused turnover in addition to her trio of goals. Sophomore midfielder Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied her fifth goal of the season off a free position shot in the second half. Although Simmons was outshot 26-13, first year goalie Kenzie Rogers (Bourne, Mass.) recorded a game-high eight saves, along with caused turnover.
 
Sophomore Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass.) finished with six goals to lead all scorers and added an assist for Smith. Senior midfielder Ray Silveria (Dunstable, Mass.) netted five goals to go with a ground ball and a caused turnover. First year midfielder Emily Biggs (Encinitas, Calif.) also added three goals and two assists in addition to seven ground balls, while sophomore goalie Meredith Britton (Old Lynn, Conn.) stop seven of 11 (.636) shots on net.
 
Hamilton scored the first two goals of the night in the game's opening seven minutes, before Bragg responded in kind for Simmons by adding two goals of its own to knot the score at 2-2 with 19:28 to go in the first half.
 
Although, the Sharks were able to control four of the following seven draw controls, they were unable to contain the visitors. The Pioneers ripped off 12 straight goals before the hosts could respond.
 
Simmons makes its return to the turf on March 16, when it hosts Salve Regina University at 7:00 p.m. on Winsor Field in Boston, while Smith will travel to Hackettstown N.J. to take on Centenary College (N.J.) on March 13 for a 2:00 p.m. match.
