WESTON, Mass. - Junior Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) tallied a career-high matching nine points to lead the Simmons College women's lacrosse team to a 16-6 victory over host Regis College this afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Sharks win their second straight match to improve to 3-5 on the season, while the Pride fall to 2-4.

Simmons dominated the draw controls, 18-6, and Gilbert was a key reason with a season-high eight successful draws. 

Junior midfielder Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) put Regis on the board first at the 25:56 mark on a feed from junior attacker Sierra Luce (Hartford, Vt.). It was the last lead of the afternoon for the Pride as Gilbert scored 17 seconds later for the Sharks to spark four straight goals, including three markers and an assist from Gilbert over the next nine-plus minutes. Luce and Salamone hooked up again for Regis with Luce scoring on an assist from Salamone at 15:16 of the first half to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Simmons opened its lead to 7-2 behind a pair of scores from first year midfielder Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) and a goal from junior attacker Alexa Faria (Cumberland, R.I.) on a pass from senior attacker Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) with 11:06 to go in the first period. The teams traded the next four goals. First year defender Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) scored for the Pride, followed by a marker from Greer, which was followed by a score from Regis sophomore attacker Danielle Aguinaldo (Malden, Mass.) and capped by a Faria goal assisted by Gilbert with 1:33 showing on the first half clock. The visitors owned a 9-4 advantage at halftime.

The Sharks opened the second half with three unanswered goals, including a pair from Oliveri and one from Fries to give them a 12-4 cushion with 16:35 remaining in the contest. The Pride scored two of the next three goals with senior middie Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and Salamone scoring goals to bookend a score from Simmons sophomore midfielder Sara Rademacher (North Haven, Conn.) to make it 13-6. Three different Sharks scored a goal apiece to close out the game for Simmons, while Gilbert racked up a pair of assists, including her career-best fifth of the game. Senior midfielder Ali Stonehouse (Dublin, N.H.), Fries and first year attacker Chyenne Yeager (Indiana, Pa.) all found the back of the net for the Sharks.

Senior goalie Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) made 10 saves to earn the victory for Simmons, while junior keeper Emma Decker (Southborough, Mass.) stopped nine shots for Regis.

Gilbert finished the afternoon with four goals, five assists, eight draw controls and a pair of ground balls for the Sharks. Fries netted four goals for the third straight match and added three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Oliveri contributed with three points, including a pair of goals. Sheehan added three caused turnovers, three draw controls and a ground ball. Senior defender Symonne Fontenot (Portsmouth, N.H.) led Simmons defensive effort with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Salamone tallied three points with a pair of goals and an assist in addition to a game-high eight ground balls and four caused turnovers to lead the Pride. Luce picked up a ground ball and won a draw in addition to a goal and an assist, while Walls collected four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

The Sharks will be in action again on Wednesday, April 1 vs. Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival at Rivier University at 7:00 p.m., while Regis travels to Leicester, Mass. to take on Becker College at 4:00 p.m. on March 31.
