Lacrosse Defeated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 22-4

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Four different players scored for the Simmons College women's lacrosse team in a 22-4 loss at host Massachusetts Institute of Technology this evening at Roberts Field in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Engineers improve to a perfect 3-0.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Four different players scored for the Simmons College women's lacrosse team in a 22-4 loss at host Massachusetts Institute of Technology this evening at Roberts Field in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Engineers improve to a perfect 3-0.

MIT dominated the draw controls by a count of 22-6 and owned a 38-11 shot advantage over the visitors.

The Engineers scored nine of the first 10 goals of the night, including six to open the contest. First year attacker Emily Young (La Jolla, Calif.) fueled the opening burst from MIT with three goals, while junior midfielder Isabella DiDio (Jenkintown, Pa.) and sophomore middie Hannah Levy (Yardley, Pa.) each added a pair of markers. First year midfielder Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied the Simmons goal. Junior middie Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) added another goal at the 7:52 mark of the first half to cut the deficit to 9-2, before DiDio and Sharks senior midfielder Ali Stonehouse (Dublin, N.H.) traded scores for a 10-3 score with 6:02 left in the opening period. The Engineers closed out the half with three straight goals to take a 13-3 lead into the break. 

MIT continued its momentum with the second half's first six goals, paced by a trio of markers from sophomore attacker Erica Green (Ivyland, Pa.), to increase the home team's advantage to 19-3 with 15:40 showing on the second half clock. Junior midfielder Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I.) netted the final goal of the evening for Simmons with 12:30 remaining in the game to make it 19-4. Green scored two more goals to add to a game-high of five to finish out the night for the Engineers.

Gilbert added three ground balls for the Sharks, while Fries came up with a pair of draw controls. Sophomore Sara Rademacher (North Haven, Conn.) came up with four ground balls, while first year defender Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) caused a pair of turnovers in addition to two ground balls to support the defense.

DiDio joined Green with five scores for MIT, while junior midfielder Kira Schott (New Canaan, Conn.) racked up five points on four goals and an assist.

Senior Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) made 11 saves for Simmons, while first year goalie Eva Boal (Princeton Junction, N.J.) turned away three of six shots in 43:48 to earn the victory for the Engineers and sophomore Stephanie Pavlick (Pittsburgh, Pa.) allowed a goal in the final 16:12 of action.

Simmons will be in action again on Thursday, March 12 when it heads to Northampton, Mass. to play Smith College at 5:30 p.m., while MIT hosts Eastern Connecticut State University tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
