Four Sharks Named 2013 GNAC Lacrosse All-Conference Selections

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. ? Simmons Lacrosse fell to the Salve Regina Seahawks, 16-6 in their 2013 season opener Tuesday evening in non-conference action. Freshman Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) paced the Sharks with her first career hat trick and two ground balls.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse received four nods on the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference honors announced Monday, just one day after falling to the Lasell College Lasers, 15-14 in the GNAC Championship. 

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons lacrosse defender Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and attack Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference First and Second Teams All-Conference, respectively, and the All-Tournament Team announced Monday by the conference.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse received four nods on the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference honors announced Monday, just one day after falling to the Lasell College Lasers, 15-14 in the GNAC Championship.

 

Junior Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named the 2013 GNAC Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year and received First Team honors for anchoring the Sharks outstanding defense this season. Martensson started and played all 14 games for the Sharks and recorded 27 ground balls, 11 draw controls and 14 caused turnovers during the season. In the GNAC semifinals versus Norwich, Martensson made a key interception during a Cadets two on one opportunity, and the Sharks went on to win, 9-8 in overtime.

 

Senior attack Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.), sophomore Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) and sophomore goalkeeper Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) each received Second Team All-Conference honors. Wallace led the Sharks in goals with 38 this season and was second on the team with 47 points. She was instrumental throughout the Sharks playoff run, scoring 11 goals including the game-winner in the quarterfinals versus Rivier.

 

Stephanie Oliveri lead all Sharks in points this season with 52, scoring 32 goals and adding 20 assists in her sophomore season. She started all 14 games at attack and recorded 10 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls for Simmons. During the playoffs, Oliveri scored eight goals and tallied four assists.

 

Crystal Derosier went 7-4 on the season as the Sharks goaltender, playing over 280 minutes with 84 saves and a save percentage of 46.9. Derosier is ranked second in the GNAC in goals against and third in save percentage.

 

The Sharks also landed three spots on the All-Tournament team, with Rachel Wallace, Seneca Martensson and Crystal Derosier each receiving the honor.
