Backhaus and Oliveri Receive GNAC Weekly Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -- Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.) received Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row, while Stephanie Oliveri was named Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for her efforts in a 1-1 week for the Sharks announced Tuesday by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.) received Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row, while Stephanie Oliveri was named Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for her efforts in a 1-1 week for the Sharks announced Tuesday by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Backhaus went a perfect 3-0 on the mound this week to help the Sharks to a 5-1 week versus GNAC opponents. In 20 innings of work, she struck out 23 batters, walking only three, and let up 11 hits, with only one for extra bases. She held batters to a .164 batting average and had a 0.70 ERA. The Sharks moved to 20-11 overall and 16-4 in the GNAC.

Oliveri scored four goals and added two assists for Sharks who lost a close fight to top seed Lasell 12-11 and rolled to an impressive win over Saint Joseph College (Conn.) 17-3 this week.

Simmons lacrosse returns to the field this evening, hosting Anna Maria College at 7:00 p.m. Softball hosts Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Thursday, April 19th at 3:00 p.m.
