WENHAM, MA—Playing host to the Simmons Sharks under the lights of the Brigham Athletic Complex tonight, the Fighting Scots captured a 15-8 win over their guests to improve to an unbeaten 2-0 overall on the young season. The matchup was the season-opener for the Sharks, who move to 0-1.

Despite Anna Blomberg opening the scoring on the night with a free position at 26:19, the Scots got off to a relatively slow start offensively while Simmons netted a pair of goals of their own from Emily Kaley (Manchester, Maine) and Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) to leave the Scots trailing 2-1 after nearly nine minutes of play. Following eight more minutes of scoreless action, however, the Scots' Krysti Leach opened the floodgates of scoring, netting the first goal of an 8-0 run that gave the Scots a 9-2 advantage and a lead they would hold for the remainder of the night. Then, after both teams traded a pair of goals in the waning minutes of the half, Gordon entered the break with a comfortable 11-4 lead.

Though the second half proved to be evenly matched with both Gordon and Simmons netting four goals apiece, the offensive momentum of the first and a solid defensive front in the second was enough to preserve the seven-goal victory for the host Scots.

Pacing the win for Gordon was Jordan Alexander with three goals on the night, while Blomberg, Leach, Stephanie Fitzgerald and Abby Illian netted two each and Jocie Knaus, Kelly Linehan, Alana Woods and Kari Christensen  recorded one apiece. Additionally, Fitzgerald and Hala Coker each handed out an assist and keeper Danielle Maguire booked eight saves for the win.

For Simmons, Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) led all Shark scorers with three points (one goal, two assists), while Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) netted two, and Maurice, Kaley, Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.), Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.), and Mary Essa (Las Vegas, Nev.) each contributed one. Keeper Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) turned away an impressive 18 shots in the losing effort.

The Scots take to the road over spring recess next week, traveling to Dallas, Pa. to face non-conference Misericordia on March 13 at 4:00p.m. Simmons will travel to Massachusetts Maritime on March 12 for a 7:00p.m. start.
