Sharks Roll to Victory Over Mustangs

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse fell to the Emerson College Lions, 10-7 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on a warm Tuesday evening. The Lions were led by sophomore midfielder Chelsea Philips, who scored five goals and added an assist on the evening.

The Mustangs scored the opening goal of the contest but gave up the next two scores when Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) found the back of the net off a free position shot and Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) put the Sharks ahead 2-1. The game would knot twice more holding at 3-3 after Mount Ida sophomore Molly Sheppard beat Simmons goalkeeper Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.).

The Sharks took the lead again off goals from Leanne Luke (Newton, Mass.), Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, Mass.) Oliveri scored her second goal of the game off a stellar pass from Callie Warnock (Kingston, Mass.) to end the half.

Simmons opened the second half scoring three goals paired with solid defense to close out the 10-5 GNAC win handing the hosts their third league loss.

Mount Ida drops their third straight game falling to an overall record of 2-8 with a GNAC slate of 2-3 while the Sharks improve to an even 5-5 with a 4-1 league standing.

Musty saw all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Mustangs denying nine Simmons shots while Shark goaltender, junior Kelly Last was impressive making 12 saves on the afternoon.

Mount Ida has a longer break resuming action Tuesday, April 10th against visiting GNAC member Emmanuel College with the contest starting at 4:00 p.m. The Sharks will host league foe Norwich University on Saturday afternoon with game time at 1:00 p.m.
